On April 15, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the candidacy of Major General of Police Oleg Hrygorov for the position of Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration. Now it is Volodymyr Zelensky's turn - the president must sign the relevant order. Who is Hrygorov and what is known about him - we have gathered the main points.
Oleg Grigorov's career is closely connected with the northeastern and eastern regions of Ukraine. At one time, he held the position of Deputy Chief of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Sumy region. Later, he was transferred to Zaporizhia to a similar position, and then to Luhansk region, where he headed the regional police as the Chief of the Main Directorate of the National Police.
In August 2024, President Zelenskyy awarded Grigorov the rank of third-rank police general. After that, he retained influence over key regions, including border regions, which became especially relevant in times of war.
At the time of filing the declaration in January 2025, Oleg Grigorov declared two apartments - one in Sumy, jointly owned with Lyudmila Grigorov, and the second in Kyiv, which he rents from the owner, Oleksandr Sachko.
Formally, the general indicated a dormitory in Zaporizhia, which belongs to the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University, as his place of residence.
The Grigorovs' fleet looks good: he has an Audi Q7 (2016), his wife has a 2021 Mazda CX-5, the total market value of both cars is about 2 million hryvnias.
The couple has almost 1.5 million hryvnias in cash, and a little more than 120 thousand in bank accounts. Among the incomes are 845.2 thousand hryvnias of Hryhorov's salary in the Luhansk region police for 2024 and another 473.7 thousand hryvnias of cash benefits. His wife, also a police officer, earned almost 510 thousand hryvnias per year.
Hrygorov's appointment seems logical from a security perspective — Sumy Oblast borders Russia and is critical for border defense. His experience in Luhansk and Zaporizhia Oblasts also works in his favor.
At the same time, the question of the newly appointed leader's effectiveness in the face of corruption, humanitarian challenges, and military mobilization remains open. While awaiting the president's signature, the full responsibility for the region is already beginning to be concentrated around the figure of Grigorov.
