The tragedy in Poltava has once again raised the question of responsibility for strikes on military facilities in Ukraine. Military blogger Yuriy Butusov emphasizes that this tragedy was inevitable due to systemic shortcomings in security measures, and believes that the lack of punishment for previous incidents is one of the reasons.
Not a single leader was punished for the attacks on the barracks in Yavoriv, Mykolaiv, or the Desna military base, where there were mass casualties.
Therefore, it is not surprising that mass gatherings continue. There is no responsibility, there is no analysis, and mistakes from which the authorities do not learn lessons continue and the victims multiply.
According to official data, at least 250 people gathered at one location of the military institute in Poltava for some kind of event.
I have been to many ceremonial events at the front — brigade commanders gather groups of no more than 30–40 people for awards, either in bunkers or in places where there are no noticeable crowds, everything is done as quickly as possible, and everything always passes without tragedies. I was at a battalion assembly and found out the assembly point 15 minutes before the assembly began in a deep forest without a single witness around, with transport widely dispersed. These same elementary security measures can and should be applied everywhere, no special education is needed for this, and it is obvious to everyone.
Enemy agents learned about the mass gathering in Poltava, and someone immediately posted a video of the results of the ground strike online. This person probably works for the enemy and is controlling the results.
Until a certain leader is clearly punished for neglecting safety measures — loss of rank and a real prison sentence for official negligence with serious consequences — there is no reason to hope that such tragedies will not happen again.
