Kyiv is technically ready to provide heat in homes, but is currently holding back due to weather conditions and the need to use gas economically. Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Petro Panteleyev reported this on Kyiv24, suggesting that the heating season in residential buildings could begin in late October.
The official emphasized that the city's infrastructure is prepared:
«In principle, we could already start the heating season, technically we are ready for it. But given the weather — it really isn’t that cold yet, and given that gas needs to be used very carefully right now… there is currently no decision on the start of the heating season.».
Panteleev clarified that the social sphere is already warming up — this applies to kindergartens and hospitals.
«Housing is not yet available. I think we will be in this mode by the end of the month.».
According to the deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration, the city is guided not only by the standard criterion of the average daily temperature of +8°C, but also by forecasts for the coming days: after a short cooling, periods of up to +16°C are expected, which allows us to refrain from supplying heat to the housing stock.
" We will need gas more when it is -10 or -15, in January-February, than now ," Panteleev emphasized, explaining the priority of rational consumption of energy resources given the risks to the gas infrastructure during the war.
