On July 30, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a decision to automatically enroll women with medical or pharmaceutical degrees in military service, as announced by government representative in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk.
The point is that now personal presence will not be required for registration - information will be entered automatically based on available data. Experts suggest that this is probably a matter of synchronizing educational registers with the Unified State Register of Military Conscripts "Oberig".
The Cabinet of Ministers also clarified the actions that educational institutions and territorial recruitment and social support centers must take regarding this category of women. In addition, the mechanism for entering information into the register has been updated.
The final text of the regulation has not yet been published, so it is difficult to say exactly how the new procedure will work. However, it is already clear that female doctors and pharmacists will be considered conscripts by analogy with men. Accordingly, they may also be required to clarify data or be held responsible in case of violation of accounting rules.
As for crossing the border, the restrictions remain unchanged. During martial law, only women who are serving in the military under contract and civil servants are prohibited from leaving. Those who are only registered can still leave without hindrance - at least in practice, border guards do not stop them.
So far, this only applies to women with medical or pharmaceutical education. It is not yet known whether similar changes will apply to other categories — for example, women with military specialties or officer ranks. But the government admits that there is currently an acute need for medical personnel, so the primary focus is on doctors.
There are also questions in society: what should be done with women who once received a medical education but do not work in this field? It is obvious that later a mechanism will have to be developed that would take such cases into account - but for now the main task of the state is to launch the registration itself.
It is also important to be clear that registration does not mean automatic mobilization. Women, as before, can only be mobilized voluntarily.
