There is a misunderstanding in the Ministry of Finance as to why servicemen at the front are forced to provide for themselves at their own expense. Minister of Finance Serhii Marchenko expressed his displeasure with this situation, stating that the state allocates 5 billion hryvnias for the needs of the defense sector every day.
When asked by Forbes journalists, Marchenko expressed surprise at why military personnel should spend their own money on the purchase of things necessary for front-line service.
"Who else singles out? They say, local budgets and local self-government bodies. We calculated their opportunity for a year - it varies from 15 to 20 billion. That is, if all local self-government bodies, all mayors resign, they will give us the opportunity to continue the war for four days," he said.
The Minister of Finance emphasized that volunteers and non-governmental organizations cannot meet the needs of the Armed Forces, comparing their capabilities with the capabilities of the state.
- "With all due respect to the volunteers, no other non-governmental organizations come close to the capabilities of the state to support the Armed Forces,"* he added.
Marchenko confidently asserts that there should be enough equipment and weapons in military warehouses, and indicated that specific persons responsible for this should be addressed in order to resolve these issues.
- "It is difficult for me to comment on things that I myself do not understand. I myself do not understand why we are still providing servicemen to the depot,"* the minister concluded.
