Living in an apartment building often brings us together with different people whom we can only know by face. We try to maintain friendly relations, but sometimes conflicts become persistent and may require the intervention of the police. But when exactly and for what should you contact the law enforcement officers? Let's understand this issue.
What violations by neighbors can be reported to the police
In general, you can do this due to various situations that violate public order, create inconvenience for other residents of the building or even threaten their safety, namely:
- Loud music or parties. If your neighbors regularly organize loud events or listen to music at unacceptable hours, for example after 11:00 p.m., then you may well complain to the police.
- Conflicts and fights. If the neighbors often arrange fights or conflicts that create danger for the environment or violate public order, this is also a reason to contact the police.
- Illegal pollution. This is, for example, careless use of communal services, illegal dumping of garbage or other actions that lead to pollution of common premises or areas (entrance, yard area, etc.).
- Illegal activity. If you suspect your neighbors of illegal activity, such as drug dealing or criminal activity, you can also contact the police so that professionals can deal with it in the future.
Please note that before you complain about your neighbors, you should have real evidence of violations.
What fines can be for these violations
In general, this is a rather individual thing, because the final amount may depend on the crime itself, its severity, circumstances, etc. Example:
- For loud music or parties at night or in unacceptable hours, an administrative fine can range from UAH 85 to UAH 255. This is evidenced by Article 182 of the Administrative Code of Ukraine. At first, violators can only get a warning, but they will already have to pay.
- For conflicts, fights and other actions that violate public order, the fine can be from 170 to 510 hryvnias, and sometimes it can even reach more than four thousand hryvnias (Article 173 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses).
- Penalties for violations of sanitary regulations are established according to administrative legislation depending on the specific situation and severity of the violation, and therefore the exact amount is difficult to determine. The same is the case with other cases of illegal activity or violations, such as illegal possession of weapons or drugs. Fines in such situations can be significantly higher, and sometimes even be accompanied by criminal liability.
Remember that fines may vary depending on the circumstances and regional characteristics.
