A few years ago, Ukrainian businessman Dmitry Kovalenko earned on trade in Russian coal. He now expands its influence in the gas industry of Ukraine, investing in the Maints gas field in the Lviv region.
According to customs data, the Swiss company Adalon AG, controlled by Kovalenko, in 2021-2022 was the largest buyer of coal from the Russian company Meltek, spending more than $ 87 million. In total, together with purchases from other Russian suppliers, this amount exceeded $ 100 million.
It is interesting that trade lasted even after a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine - at least by August 2022.
Entrance to gas production
At the beginning of 2025, AFKI Investments Ltd, owned by the son of Kovalenko - Daniel Kovalenko, began to control 83.7% of LLC Navigator Maynitske. This enterprise is licensed for the development of a Maynitsa gas field in the Lviv region.
Earlier, well-known Ukrainian business groups fought for this asset:
- Investbankir Igor Mazepa,
- Exonard Depps Vitaliy Danilov and Igor Kotvitsky.
After a long -standing corporate conflict, in January 2025, the parties concluded a world, and in February, the deposit came under the control of the Kovalenko dynasty.
Dmitry Kovalenko builds an energy empire?
In addition to gas production, Kovalenka became the minority owners of the Navigator Invest Service Company, which is engaged in the arrangement of gas and oil fields.
The next goal? Probably, the Navigator Set drill, which now owns 16.22% of LLC Navigator Maynitske and is one of the largest drill operators in Ukraine.
Not only gas: Kovalenko amber affairs
Even before the war, Dmitry Kovalenko tried to enter the amber business.
Its affiliated companies "Granoil", "Drestsotechnology" and "Ecotechbud" received permits for amber intelligence in the Zhytomyr region for 450 ha. But the business did not go:
- Granoil was eliminated,
- "Dreystetstechnology" - bankrupt,
- Ecotechbud - suits the Prosecutor General's Office because of the abolition of permits.
The only significant area that remained in the hands of Kovalenko structures - "Yelne" in the Rivne region (516.43 ha). In 2023, it was purchased at the auction by Electron Stone for UAH 6.58 million.
Interesting detail:
- The owner of Electron Stone is Yevgeny Klimenko.
- A person with the same name is a co -owner of coal enterprises "Shakhterskaya" and "Anthracite", which work in the occupied territories of LDNR.
In recent years, Dmitry Kovalenko has gone from trade in Russian coal to control over gas and amber assets in Ukraine. His business interests are expanding, and now he not only operates Ukrainian subsoil, but can also get a significant impact on the energy market and the extractive industry.
This raises serious questions about the origin of capital, Kovalenko's ties with Russian financial flows and the possible use of Ukraine's energy assets in the schemes of withdrawal of money abroad.
