Tuberculosis remains a major public health problem worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, about a quarter of the world's population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, although in many cases the disease does not manifest itself. One of the most effective methods of combating the disease is preventive treatment, which prevents the development of active disease in people at increased risk of infection.
Ukraine has created all the conditions for free diagnostics and treatment of tuberculosis according to international standards. Particular attention is paid to high-risk groups - people who have been in contact with patients with active tuberculosis, HIV-infected people, dialysis patients and people awaiting organ transplantation. It is important that before starting preventive treatment, the presence of an active form of the disease is excluded.
The main benefits of preventive treatment are to significantly reduce the likelihood of developing tuberculosis and minimize the risks of its spread. This is especially true in wartime, when population displacement creates additional threats of mass spread of the disease.
Ukrainians can undergo preventive treatment in local medical institutions without changing their usual lifestyle. Both phthisiologists and family doctors can prescribe therapy. Depending on individual indications, the course lasts from one to three months.
Thanks to the implementation of international standards and a decentralized approach, the Ukrainian healthcare system provides accessible and effective preventive treatment that helps stop the spread of tuberculosis and protect the most vulnerable categories of the population.
