Urolithiasis has long ceased to be an exclusively "adult" problem. It is increasingly diagnosed in children and adolescents. The reasons are not only in heredity, but also in the modern way of life. Insufficient use of water, eating habits, overloading of the body with salt, sugar and chronic hypodynamia are all factors that form ideal conditions for the formation of kidney stones.
Doctors emphasize that the key to prevention is in simple daily things. First of all, it is a drinking regime. If the urine remains dark yellow during the day, the body does not receive enough fluid. Regular consumption of clean water is the best way to reduce risks. For most adults, the norm is at least eight glasses a day.
Another important factor is calcium. It is a mistake to believe that calcium provokes the formation of stones. In fact, its deficiency contributes to the accumulation of oxalic acid salts, which form crystalline structures in the kidneys. Therefore, it is important not to give up dairy products and not to neglect vitamin D, which promotes its absorption.
Doctors advise special attention to products with high oxalates. It is about beetroot, sorrel, celery, strawberries, as well as chocolate. Excessive consumption of these products, especially in combination with a lack of water, can have negative consequences. The same effect can have a large amount of vitamin C - in the body it is partially transformed into the same oxalates.
Excess salt in the diet is another risk factor. Salt makes the kidneys work in enhanced mode. Optimal daily consumption should not exceed five grams. It is equally important to control sugar consumption, including fructose, which is also involved in crystallization processes. Doctors advise to prefer natural sweeteners, including honey or stevia.
Physical activity also has a direct effect on the state of the urinary system. Regular movement improves metabolism, reduces the risk of stagnation and helps the body to effectively eliminate excess salts. This is especially true for children who spend more time in a sitting position.
Prevention of urolithiasis does not require overgrowth, but requires stability. It is the change in daily habits - from drinking to an active lifestyle - is able to protect the body from an unpleasant diagnosis, which often returns with complications.
