On the eve of Easter in 2025, Ukrainians will again encounter the rise in prices for basic foods - bread, eggs, meat. This was reported by the Deputy Chairman of the All -Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denis Marchuk during a briefing at the Media Center "Ukraine". According to him, food inflation has already exceeded 13% and continues to grow.
This year, Easter for Christians of the Eastern and Western Rites falls on one date - April 20. Demand for products is increasing, and this is even more pressing on prices. This is especially true of those categories of goods that are traditionally components of the Easter basket.
“Product prices will increase not only because of inflation, but also through problems with logistics and the increase in the cost of energy. This is added high demand, which is characteristic of such holidays as Easter, ”Marchuk said.
Bread and bakery products
According to the expert, during 2024 the prices for bread increased by 20%. And this trend will only continue. The price is affected not only by the value of grain, but also by the dollar, the rise in price of electricity and delivery. Therefore, bread and baking can add a few more percent in the next weeks.
Eggs
Ukrainians felt the most painful increase in prices in the egg category. On the eve of Easter, they will rise by about 10%, forecast analysts. The main reason is the cost of feed and seasonal demand. But after the holidays, seasonal cheaper is possible by 20-30% - due to the increase in the offer from private households.
Meat
Meat products are another category that traditionally rises after the end of Lent. This year this dynamics will remain. The cost of beef and pork can increase closer to holidays and early May. The decline of livestock and the high cost of production due to grain and feed prices remain decisive factors.
Although some products may cheap a little after Easter, the overall trend in the market remains unfavorable to the buyer. According to Marchuk, Ukrainians should be prepared for the fact that the situation with prices for products in 2025 will remain difficult. Although the government is introducing new control tools (in particular, restrictions on margins), they have not yet had a systemic effect.
Ukrainians are advised to plan purchases in advance to avoid price peaks on the eve of the holiday. However, even with early purchases, you should expect a significant increase in the cost of the Easter basket compared to last year.
