The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine reports on the continuation of repeated pollution along the Seim River. According to the agency, various changes in water quality are observed in several areas.
In the territory of the village of Chumakove, an improvement is noted: the transparency of the water has increased, but the yellow-green, in places grayish shade remains. In the villages of Mutyn and Ozarychi, the situation is more critical: the water is cloudy, and the level of chemical oxygen consumption exceeds the norm by 4.3 times, while there is no dissolved oxygen.
In the city of Baturyn, darkening of the water and a specific smell are observed, but no fish plague has been recorded. Chemical oxygen consumption there exceeds the norm by only 1.1 times, and the oxygen regime remains within the norm. However, the manganese content increased up to 1.3 times, while no excesses were found in other parameters, such as ammonium nitrogen, total iron, nitrites, phosphates, and chlorides.
The Ministry of Natural Resources noted that further down the river Seim the situation remains stable: the water is clear, there is practically no sediment at the bottom, there is no unpleasant smell, and no fish plague is observed.
At the same time, the situation is stabilizing on the Desna River. The water has brightened along its entire length in the Chernihiv region, although there is still dark sediment at the bottom. The unpleasant smell and plague of fish have not been detected, and living aquatic bioresources are appearing in the river. The movement of pollution in the Kyiv region is currently not recorded.
