On Saturday, May 4, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine honors the memory of the Holy Martyr Pelagia on the new calendar and recalls the female myrrh-the first witnesses of the Resurrection of Christ.
That is celebrated by the believers in the new style
The Holy Pelagia, who lived in the III century, is known as a symbol of faithfulness to Christ. She denied the son of Emperor Diocletian, choosing the spiritual path. After the baptism, Pelagia allegedly healed the servants who were blinded, and later suffered a martyrdom: she was executed on fire, after which, according to legend, the body melted like a fragrant world.
Also on this day are honored by women-mishops-Maria Magdalen, Salomia, John, Martha, Maria, Susanne and others who were the first to learn about the resurrection of Jesus. People are called "women's holiday", and also - "grandma's a week" when they honor motherhood and women's care.
The temples hold festive worship services, greet women, thank them for their love and support.
What an old-fashioned holiday
According to the Julian calendar, the Holy Martyr Square and Bishop Janairi are honored today.
