The Verkhovna Rada is considering draft law No. 8369, which provides for fines for drivers who use summer tires during the winter season. According to the document, the winter period lasts from November 1 to March 31.
Currently, police do not have the authority to fine drivers for using summer tires in cold weather, even if it poses a danger to themselves and other road users. The bill proposes to fill this gap.
Inspector of the Kyiv Region Patrol Police Valeriy noted that summer tires on a slippery road can cause a car to skid even at a speed of 40-50 km/h. He also emphasized that in many EU countries there is liability for using tires out of season. For example, in Germany, a driver faces a fine of up to 1,200 euros for such a violation.
Bill No. 8369 has been added to the agenda of the 14th session of parliament, and after its adoption, Ukrainian drivers will be required to change to winter tires or risk a fine.
