Olympic high jump champion Yaroslava Maguchikh has announced her ambitions to surpass her own world record. The athlete shared her plans to break the Olympic record and “write the Ukrainian name there.”.
“I will say this, if 2021 was my first Olympic Games, then 2024 will be my first trials after the world record. After them, preparations for Los Angeles will begin,” Maguchikh noted, reports sport.ua.
Yaroslava said that after setting the world record, it took her a long time to recover. “My body spent so much energy on it that I just walked for four days and couldn’t do anything. Although mentally I was already ready for this height. And physically, yes, even earlier, when I jumped 2.06 indoors and 2.05 in Brussels. But then, perhaps, psychologically I wasn’t so stable,” the athlete explained.
Maguchikh noted that she is ready for new achievements and intends to surpass her world record. “Now I am ready and I want to surpass 2.10 myself, but this is a record. This is a height that people sometimes jump once and that's it. But I want to go higher. I think I can jump up to 2.15 - I have such strength,” the champion added.
Recall that on July 7, Maguchikh set a new world record in the high jump at the Diamond League stage in Paris, clearing a height of 2.10 meters and breaking the 37-year-old record set by Stefka Kostadinova.
Also at the Olympic Games in Paris, Ukrainian athletes Yaroslava Maguchikh and Iryna Gerashchenko won gold and bronze medals in high jumps, clearing heights of two meters and 1.95 meters, respectively.
