The Russian Federation is probably preparing for a massive attack on Ukraine on Independence Day, August 24. Oleksandr Musienko, head of the Center for Military Legal Research, reported this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine. The expert drew attention to several signs indicating possible aggression on the part of the Kremlin.
Musienko noted that Russia actively conducts training flights of strategic aviation, which causes concern. "There are risks. They cannot be neglected. There are signs that Russia is preparing to strike," he said.
In particular, according to Musienko, Russia continues to accumulate missiles, and its aviation conducts flights, which is probably due to the need to relocate aircraft due to attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian military airfields. One of these airfields, "Olenya" in northern Russia, has already suffered from Ukrainian attacks.
Musienko also emphasized that Russia may be ready for a large-scale attack in conditions of accumulation of missiles. "Stocks are being prepared. That is, the enemy usually has the opportunity to carry out such an attack," he added. According to expert estimates, Russia may have about 100 missiles ready for use.
The expert drew special attention to the fact that on August 23, on the eve of the Independence Day of Ukraine, Kyiv is planned to be visited by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. Musiyenko believes that active diplomatic activity of Ukraine, in particular establishing contacts with the Global South, can become an additional motive for the Kremlin.
The expert noted that Russia traditionally resorts to shelling on the eve or after significant dates for Ukraine. Therefore, the period around Independence Day is particularly risky. Musienko added that warnings from the US about possible attacks may not be just a formality, but a serious signal of a threat.
