EU leaves Medvedchuk under sanctions for another year

The European Union has extended individual sanctions against Russia, deciding to extend them for another year - until October 9, 2026. The EU Council announced this on Friday, October 3.

The document states that the restrictive measures have been extended in light of Russia's ongoing hybrid activities, including foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI), carried out against the EU, its member states and partners.

As of today, sanctions apply to 47 individuals and 15 legal entities involved in Russia's destabilizing actions. Among them is former Ukrainian politician and businessman Viktor Medvedchuk, who the EU considers one of the key leaders of Kremlin influence in Ukraine.

The sanctions include asset freezes, a ban on providing any financial resources or economic support to EU citizens and companies. The sanctioned individuals are also banned from entering and transiting through the territory of the European Union.

Thus, the EU confirmed its intention to continue to counter Russian hybrid threats and restrict the activities of those who contribute to destabilization in the region.
