The European Union is launching the Entry/Exit System (EES), which will replace passport stamps with digital registration. It will come into effect on October 12, 2025 for citizens of third countries, including Ukraine. This was reported by the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland.
What is changing:
-
the system applies to short-term trips of up to 90 days in any 180-day period;
-
instead of stamps in the passport, an electronic record will be recorded in the database;
-
The system will include a photo of the face, four fingerprints (for persons aged 12 and over), passport data, date and place of border crossing, as well as cases of entry refusal.
How it will work:
-
all passengers will have to exit the vehicle to undergo biometrics;
-
for train passengers, the procedure will depend on the specific checkpoint;
-
Refusal to provide biometric data will be grounds for refusal of entry.
Why introduce the system:
-
monitoring compliance with the rules of residence in the EU;
-
preventing the use of forged documents;
-
strengthening security in the Schengen area countries.
