Russia's latest brutal air attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine underscore the need for the European Union to immediately adopt a decision to create a Ukrainian fund to ensure ongoing financial support for Ukraine. This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Belgium, which presides over the EU, Alexander De Croo, in Brussels today.
Von der Leyen stressed that the European Commission, together with the Belgian Presidency, will determine priorities, the main one of which is providing support to Ukraine. After the historic decision to start negotiations with Ukraine on its accession to the EU, it is important to move forward urgently to stabilize financial aid to this country, especially in the context of recent aggressive actions by Russia.
