Russia's latest brutal air attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine underline the need for the European Union to immediately adopt a decision to establish a Ukraine Fund to provide permanent financial support to Ukraine, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of the Belgian presidency, Alexandre De Croo, in Brussels today.
Von der Leyen stressed that the European Commission, together with the Belgian Presidency, will identify priorities, among which support for Ukraine is key. Following the historic decision to open accession negotiations with Ukraine, it is essential to move forward urgently to stabilise financial assistance to the country, especially in the context of Russia's recent aggressive actions.
