The European Field Hockey Federation decided to exclude all national and youth teams of Ukraine from participating in international competitions due to the debt of the Ukrainian Field Hockey Federation to the organization, which exceeds 30 thousand euros.
According to Svitlana Makayeva, the senior coach of the women's national team of Ukraine, the Brussels office of the European Federation claims that the debt of the Ukrainian Field Hockey Federation amounts to more than 32 thousand euros, in particular due to unpaid competition fees. The money for these contributions was allocated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, however, according to Makaeva, it was not transferred to the European Federation.
The decision was a blow to Ukrainian field hockey, as the Ukrainian national teams, including the women's, men's and youth teams, have been withdrawn from the 2025 European Championships and will not be able to participate in other international tournaments.
It should be noted that until November 2024, only two countries, Russia and Belarus, were suspended from international field hockey competitions due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
