European countries are not now ready to send peacekeepers to Ukraine without support from the United States, at least in the form of participation in air and intelligence operations. According to information provided by El Pais, most European countries are interested in providing security guarantees to Ukraine, but this issue has not yet been achieved at the level of specific decisions. On Friday, during the EU summit, leaders will discuss military support for Ukraine and the role of the European Union in providing this support.
The main topic for discussions will be to strengthen the European Army in the event of a potential attack, as well as the possibility of providing peacekeepers to strengthen Ukraine's national security. However, Hungary promises to veto any decisions about Ukraine, which can significantly complicate the decision-making process. Most European countries believe that military assistance to Ukraine should continue, but the issue of peacekeepers is still under discussion.
Summit participants also plan to discuss the possibility of deploying military forces under the European flag or patrol missions. However, the debate on these steps has not yet taken specific forms, and European countries do not specify what security and defense tools can be applied.
Despite the fact that the issue remains open, the EU will discuss these aspects not only with the Bloc Member States, but also with Turkey, the United Kingdom and Norway, which are not part of the EU.
