The European Union is preparing to continue the Provisional Protection Program for Ukrainian Refugees until March 2027. It is reported by Politico , citing sources in the European Commission. In parallel, Brussels begins to develop a plan for the gradual return of Ukrainian citizens home after the fighting is completed.
According to the newspaper, the European Commission seeks to create a mechanism that will allow organized and without pressure to help Ukrainians make a decision to return as soon as the situation in Ukraine will allow it. Currently, permission to reside and work in the EU for Ukrainians has been continued several times, but 2027 can be the final term of the current protection system.
Upon completion of the EU Member States, alternatives to the EU Member States. For vulnerable categories of the population - people with chronic diseases, pregnant women or those who have school -age children - can be offered preferential conditions.
"Ukraine needs its citizens most," said the European Commissioner for Migration Magnus Brunner. -"We need to help Ukrainians make a reasonable decision on their future-to return home or to support the country from abroad."
