Former press secretary of the Ukrainian president, Yulia Mendel, in her article for The Time, expressed the opinion that an immediate ceasefire . She emphasized that the war is exhausting the country, and the prospects of Ukraine's membership in NATO are becoming increasingly distant.
In her opinion, the country is "losing a nation" not only due to hostilities, but also due to the forced emigration of citizens, the death of military personnel and civilians, and the destruction of cities and infrastructure.
Mendel notes that despite all of Kyiv's efforts, the prospect of Ukraine's NATO membership is becoming "increasingly remote.".
At the same time, according to her, ceasefire negotiations are being held at a high level from Washington to Brussels.
Mendel emphasizes that even an "imperfect truce" could be an opportunity for Ukraine to strengthen its defenses.
"Even an imperfect truce is not a concession, but a chance to survive and strengthen defenses," she writes.
The former presidential press secretary suggests considering the truce not as a defeat, but as a forced step to preserve statehood.
"Let us accept this difficult path not as a capitulation, but as a necessary step towards securing the future of Ukraine. We are obliged to do this for the sake of our nation, for the sake of those who fell, and for the sake of those who will inherit the Ukraine that we seek to protect," Mendel concluded.
