Former Presidential Presidential Presidential Julia Mendel in her article for The Time expressed his opinion about the need for immediate ceasefire . She stressed that the war is depleting the country, and the prospects for Ukraine's membership in NATO are becoming more and more distant.
In her opinion, the country "loses the nation" not only through hostilities, but also through the forced emigration of citizens, the death of military and civilians, as well as the destruction of cities and infrastructure.
Mendel notes that despite all the efforts of Kiev, the prospect of Ukraine's membership in NATO is becoming more and more distant.
At the same time, according to her, negotiations on ceasefire are conducted at a high level from Washington to Brussels.
Mendel emphasizes that even an "imperfect truce" can be an opportunity for Ukraine to strengthen defense.
"Even an imperfect truce is not a concession, but a chance to survive and strengthen the defense," she writes.
The former presidential press secretary proposes to consider the armistice not as a defeat, but as a forced step to preserve statehood.
“Let's take this difficult way not as surrender, but as a necessary step towards providing the future of Ukraine. We are obliged to do it for the sake of our nation, for the sake of those who have stuck, and for the sake of those who inherit Ukraine we want to protect, ”Mendel summed up.
