From January 1, 2025, new environmental standards will enter into force in Ukraine, which will significantly limit the import of old cars. According to the new rules, it will not be possible to import vehicles that do not meet the Euro-6 or its equivalents. This decision is aimed at improving the environmental situation and reducing the level of air pollution.
According to them, it will be possible to import into the country only cars that meet the "Euro-6" eco-standard, that is, produced after 2015.
The new regulations will affect both new and used vehicles of the following types:
- tractor units for semi-trailers;
- buses;
- trucks;
- special equipment (mobile cranes, tow trucks, etc.);
- new passenger cars undergoing their first registration.
Until now, it was allowed to import cars that met the Euro-2 standard and higher, i.e., produced after 1996.
Used passenger cars, which have already been operated abroad and have a standard not lower than "Euro-2", will be able to be imported in the future. These rules will not apply to electric cars either, since they do not have an internal combustion engine.
The new restrictions will not apply to vehicles imported as humanitarian aid or for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The application of the new regulation, which was previously postponed due to the war, is aimed at updating Ukraine's car fleet and reducing environmental damage. However, this could lead to higher prices for both new and used cars due to the reduced choice available.
The innovation is an important environmental step, but it also raises concerns about the affordability of cars for Ukrainians with an average income.
We will remind you that in October, Ukrainians spent 11.1 billion hryvnias on the purchase of new premium passenger cars.
