The “mole” was mobilized: the Russian agent wanted to spy on the “zero”, but will go to prison
Ukrainian law enforcement agencies announced the imposition of strict imprisonment on a known enemy agent who, using the pretext of mobilization to the Armed Forces, planned to carry out espionage activities on the front lines on the Eastern Front.
According to the investigation, the traitor turned out to be a resident of the Dnipropetrovsk region, who graduated from Moscow State University in the 2000s, where he received a law degree. During his studies, he came under the attention of Russian military intelligence (GRU). After graduating from university, he returned to Ukraine, where he was in “waiting mode” for a long time.
In 2023, his Russian handler was revealed to be the person involved. After that, he mobilized to one of the brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as part of which he was sent to the Bakhmut region. “Krit” collected intelligence on the locations of the bases and movements of Ukrainian troops. He communicated with the handler through a specially created chat bot, which was administered by the Russians.
However, he soon secretly left his unit. The enemy agent was detained in Vinnytsia region in late February when he tried to escape to unrecognized Transnistria across the border river.
Based on the collected evidence, the perpetrator was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 (high treason committed under martial law) and Part 4 of Article 408 (desertion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He cooperated with the investigation and therefore received only 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
