Rakhiv region of Transcarpathia became the place of rescue of three "tourists" who intended to illegally cross the Ukrainian-Romanian border, but got lost in the Carpathian mountains. The incident occurred on January 12, 2024, when border guards together with rescuers found a group of men, among whom were residents of Kyiv region and Donetsk region.
According to the press service of the State Border Service of Ukraine (SPSU), the men started their journey on January 5, intending to cross the border independently, without proper documents. However, already on the seventh day of the journey, they lost their orientation in the mountains and asked for help. The use of a quadcopter helped border guards find lost tourists.
The "tourists" had signs of hypothermia, and one of them even received superficial frostbite in the area of the ankle joint. Medics worked with the victims, and they were taken to the Central District Hospital of the city of Rakhiv for examination and provision of the necessary assistance.
The rescue operation turned out to be difficult due to the highlands, as well as difficult weather conditions. However, thanks to the prompt work of rescuers and border guards, all members of the group were rescued and brought to a safe place.
Currently, administrative protocols have been drawn up for violators, and their further fate will be decided by the court. Given the serious violations, they will face the question not only of violating the border regime, but also of providing an appropriate legal assessment of their actions.
