The offensive of the Russian occupation forces has been going on for over a year, and to effectively confront Ukraine, long-range strikes on Russia are needed, as well as a significant increase in the volume of provided weapons. This was stated by the executive director of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation, Dmytro Zhmailo, in an interview with Glavre. He emphasized that the problem lies in the constant support of Russian troops from the territory of the Russian Federation, which allows them to strengthen their forces.
Logistics is the key to stopping the offensive
“If we destroy logistics, it could stop the enemy’s advance,” Zhmaylo said. He explained that the Ukrainian army is constantly pressuring its Western partners to obtain permission to strike with long-range weapons on Russian territory. This, according to the expert, could turn the tide on the front.
Ukraine needs more weapons
Despite the fact that Ukraine has received many types of weapons since 2022, parity with Russia has not yet been achieved. Zhmaylo noted that the ratio of forces in terms of shells could reach 1:3 in favor of the enemy if supplies continue uninterrupted.
“Creeping Offensive” and the Role of Artillery
According to Zhmail, although the Russian Federation has sufficient resources to continue offensive operations, they are not capable of making large-scale breakthroughs, as during the battles for Avdiivka. This is due to the increase in the number of Ukrainian artillery and fire weapons, which significantly exceed those that Ukraine had last winter.
“The creeping offensive will most likely continue, but major breakthroughs at the front are unlikely,” stated Dmytro Zhmaylo.
