The West is extremely worried about Yermak's unlimited power - Bloomberg

In June, world leaders gathered in Switzerland to discuss the war in Ukraine. This meeting provided an opportunity to look behind the scenes of the Ukrainian political scene, where Andriy Yermak, the head of his administration, became a key figure alongside President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. Bloomberg reports in detail about Yermak's growing influence and his unlimited power.

Andriy Yermak, a former film producer, has become Zelensky's indispensable adviser in recent years. It occupies a central place in the military and foreign policy issues of Ukraine. Its influence extends to such important aspects as military planning, diplomacy and domestic political decisions. During the meeting in Switzerland, Yermak was constantly present next to President Zelensky, demonstrating his importance in making key decisions.

As Bloomberg notes, Yermak's growing role is causing concern among Ukraine's international partners, in particular NATO countries and the European Union. The concentration of power in the hands of one person can limit transparency and accountability in decision-making, which is especially important in times of war. This concern is deepened by personnel changes that have taken place in Ukraine. According to Bloomberg, such changes are often initiated or supported by Yermak.

However, as the publication emphasizes, Yermak himself denies that his influence is growing. He claims that he is only coordinating the work and is proud that the president asks his opinion because of the results obtained. President Zelensky also rejected criticism of Yermak, stressing that his chief of staff is a "powerful manager" who acts in the interests of the country. Zelensky emphasizes that decisions are made on the basis of consultations with various advisers, although Yermak's role is particularly significant. However, some experts and critics, as noted by Bloomberg, are concerned that Yermak's increased role may limit opportunities for open and constructive discussions in the highest echelons of power.

Bloomberg notes that concern about Yermak comes at a critical moment for President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. Ukraine is trying to repel the Russian offensive and is preparing for winter with a damaged energy infrastructure. The US elections and the possible return of Donald Trump to the White House are calling into question the long-term support of allies. Also, Zelensky can be accused of "lack of legitimacy", since his powers would have already expired without martial law.

According to Bloomberg, Yermak's powers are broader than those of any of his predecessors. He played a central role in making key decisions during the war: supplying weapons, negotiating security guarantees, overseeing prisoner exchanges, and bringing the Global South to Kyiv's side. Journalists note that some officials compare Yermak's role to that of the chief executive officer, while Zelenskyy serves as the chairman. Yermak says that his "power" consists in working 24/7 and taking on more obligations and risks.

In May 2024, Yermak allegedly played an important role in the resignation of the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, who once had direct contact with Zelensky and was close to the Biden administration. It is claimed that Zelensky tolerates Yermak's "ruthless methods", seeing him as a problem-solver who offers quick and easy solutions.

Yermak is now engaged in diplomatic activities, and is the architect of a kind of peace plan for Ukraine, which aims to attract allies outside the West to Ukraine's demands to end the war before the start of the negotiation process with a more isolated Russia.
