In the second week of August, 1,283 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in Kyiv, including 174 children. This is a significant increase compared to June, when the city recorded only 199 laboratory-confirmed cases.
Valentyna Ginzburg, director of the Department of Health Care of the KMDA, reported that the number of hospitalized patients and patients requiring artificial lung ventilation is increasing. However, according to her, the disease mostly proceeds without significant complications.
"Patients who do not experience significant symptoms may ignore them, believing that it is normal fatigue or a runny nose. This increases the risk of the spread of Covid-19 among other people," Ginsburg warned.
In this regard, doctors recommend using protective masks, antiseptics for hands, avoiding large gatherings of people and keeping a distance.
It is also worth noting that a new subvariant of the Omicron - Flirt coronavirus has been recorded in Ukraine, which is transmitted faster and better avoids the immune response. However, vaccines remain effective against this variant of the virus.
Despite the threefold increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 over the past month, the Ministry of Health does not plan to introduce restrictive measures, as the absolute number of patients remains relatively small.
The Ministry of Health also updated vaccination recommendations. Most people now only need one shot against Covid-19, while people at risk should be revaccinated 6-12 months later.
