As tensions with Russia escalate, the Air Force is considering new methods of storing F-16 fighter jets to protect them from potential Russian threats. According to Air Force officials, building underground storage facilities and bunkers is a costly and time-consuming process, so alternative storage methods are being developed.
"These are enormous costs, if we are talking about digging underground, storage, bunkers. This also takes time. Therefore, other methods are currently being developed, how to arrange, where to place. We understand that this will be a dispersed use on different types of runways, airfields, where it will be difficult for the enemy to find them," Yevlash said.
He says that “a diverse set of methods will be used to mislead the enemy and at the same time effectively use” aircraft.
He did not name specific methods, but noted that "there are already a number of developments and ideas on how to deploy F-16 aircraft in Ukraine.".
Recall that the aircraft are expected in Ukraine this year.
