The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted as a basis draft law No. 10313, which introduces restrictions on the distribution of certain types of information by military personnel.
The article of the draft law, entitled "Implementation of the right of servicemen to information", provides for the prohibition of soldiers and officers from disclosing in the media, the Internet and other public telecommunication networks certain data that can be used by the Russian occupiers for analysis and use.
In particular, the restriction concerns information that allows determining the location of military facilities, the activities of military units and the details of their tasks. The explanatory note to the draft law emphasizes that such measures should ensure the safety of the military and make it impossible for the enemy to use the information.
Ivanka Melnyk, an expert at the Institute of Mass Information, expressed concern about the breadth of the wording of the restrictions specified in the draft law. According to her, such wording could lead to unreasonable restrictions on military personnel, while a more specific ban would be more effective.
The expert hopes that during the final formulation of the law, people's deputies will take these concerns into account, especially taking into account public control over this issue.
