As of March 18, draft law No. 11087 was registered, which provides for the creation of a new body - the Specialized Economic Prosecutor's Office (SEP). This information was made public by People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
The Specialized Economic Prosecutor's Office will be an independent unit responsible for procedural supervision in criminal cases in the economic sphere. In other words, its task will be to monitor compliance with laws and the rights of legal businesses.
The new prosecutor's office will be formed on the basis of the economic departments of the Prosecutor General's Office and the relevant divisions of regional prosecutor's offices.
“The creation of the SEP will allow transforming existing prosecutor's office departments into a unit independent of political influence,” noted People's Deputy Zheleznyak.
The selection of employees of the new prosecutor's office will be carried out through a competition.
However, Maksym Buzhansky, a member of parliament from the Servant of the People party, expressed a negative attitude towards this initiative:
“People’s Deputy Zheleznyak proposes to create a Specialized Economic Prosecutor’s Office, SEP. We already have a SAPO, and now a SEP is proposed. We can add a SIP, a special investment prosecutor’s office, a SOP, a special operational prosecutor’s office, a SUP, a special criminal prosecutor’s office, a SJAP, a special yabedna prosecutor’s office, and a SJUP, a special judicial prosecutor’s office. When the budget is desperately short of money, a war is going on in its most dramatic phase, state institutions are working with a grinding noise, what could be better than complicating everything, parallelizing and finally breaking the work of law enforcement agencies? A country where no one has time to work, because competition follows competition, and then competition instead of the competition held, and then re-certification of the winners of the competition that took place, well, how can you not get carried away by such ideas? SAPO, SEP, SJAP, SOP, SIP, SUP, SUP, in my opinion, are ideal. If you think about it, you should immediately add a position - a special economic prosecutor of the community. It is important to have one in every house!”
