The Government of Ukraine has developed a draft law on the demobilization of military personnel during martial law, but its submission to the Verkhovna Rada is not scheduled to take place until the spring of 2025. This was announced by First Deputy Minister of Defense Ivan Gavryliuk during question time to the government in the Verkhovna Rada.
According to the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, the project is already ready, but in order for it to be submitted for consideration, it is necessary to provide conditions that would not lead to a threat to the existence of the state of Ukraine.
The delay in submitting the draft law is due to the need to develop a mechanism for replacing a large number of military personnel who may be demobilized. An important part of that process, officials said, is ensuring who or what can replace those people on the front lines.
Today, the mobilization reserve of Ukraine is 3.7 million people, and the total number of male citizens aged 25 to 60 is 11.1 million people. The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that before submitting the draft law, it is still necessary to complete a number of preparatory measures to guarantee the country's security in the conditions of an ongoing war.
We would like to remind you that according to the initial plans of the Ministry of Defense, work on the draft law was to be completed by December 18, 2024, but due to the complexity of the situation, the deadline for submitting the draft law was postponed to next year.
