Over the past two weeks, Russian forces have stepped up offensive activity on all fronts, with frozen ground as a key factor, British intelligence said in a daily report. Frozen ground makes it possible for enemy armored vehicles to move over rugged terrain.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ( Ukraine ), on January 19, the number of Russian shelling on the front increased by 27%, compared to the previous day. During this period, 81 airstrikes and 45 rocket attacks were recorded.
British intelligence data, which compares the period from January 14 to 18, 2024 with the previous five-day period of the current month, indicate an increase in the number of Russian shelling and losses of equipment and personnel. In particular, the number of Russian military equipment losses increased by 88%, the number of tank losses increased by 95%, and personnel losses increased by 15%.
"These data indicate a constant increase in the intensity of Russian offensive activity over the past two weeks. The key factor contributing to this, most likely, is the freezing of the ground, which allows armored vehicles to move over rough terrain," the report states.
Also, the intelligence indicated that the losses of the Russian side increased and that the Russian occupiers turned their attention from the Kupyansk direction to the Lymansk, where mass attacks .
The report also noted that Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine is now in its 697th day, with 80 combat clashes taking place in the last 24 hours.
