The law enforcement officers completed the investigation in the case of the deputy director of the department of the Kyiv City State Administration and a private businessman-intermediary, who is accused of demanding bribes from motor carriers. According to the State Bureau of Investigation, the official demanded 40,000 hryvnias from carriers every week for securing a permit to work on route lines through a company controlled by him. The indictment was sent to the court, and the case is gaining wide publicity.
According to reports, in April 2024, the wife of a military serviceman, who managed her husband's transportation company while he was serving, turned to the SBI.
The enterprise served one of the Kyiv routes. The woman complained about systemic pressure from the official and threats to terminate the current contract for passenger transportation if she does not agree to "cooperation".
In particular, the company had to transfer 40,000 hryvnias weekly to the official through a controlled company for the right to work on the route.
The law enforcement officers detained the businessman-intermediary immediately after receiving the next "tranche" for the official.
A number of searches were conducted, during which documents and equipment confirming illegal activities were seized. The official was removed from duty.
The two defendants are accused of receiving an unlawful benefit (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty for a term of up to 10 years.
