As of Tuesday, August 13, the volume of transportation of Russian gas through the Suja gas measuring station (GMS) in Ukraine increased by 7% compared to the previous day. According to the data of the "Ukraine GTS Operator", the confirmed nomination for gas transit through the Suja gas pipeline system increased to 42.4 million cubic meters, which exceeds the figure of August 12, when the volume was 39.6 million cubic meters.
Today, the Suja station remains the only route for the supply of Russian gas to Europe through the territory of Ukraine. Despite the war, Russia's Gazprom continues to supply gas through this station, which brings the company about $5 billion in annual revenue. Experts note that Gazprom can declare force majeure in the event of physical damage to the equipment at the gas pipeline, which will make it impossible to measure gas volumes. However, the Russian side can make such decisions earlier.
A decrease in the volume of transit of Russian gas through the Ukrainian GTS was recently recorded. On August 8, transit volumes fell to 37.25 million cubic meters, which is 6% less compared to the previous day. This is the lowest rate since May 1, 2023.
Also in August, information appeared that the Armed Forces of Ukraine took control of the Suzha gas measuring station in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, which caused a wave of discussions in the media. Despite this, the station continues to function as a key transit facility through which Russian gas reaches European customers.
