In January 2024, a revaluation of pensions took place in Ukraine, according to which judges' pensions were increased to almost 100 thousand hryvnias per month, while others received only small additional payments.
According to the Pension Fund, the average pension in the country as of January 2024 reached the level of 5.3 thousand hryvnias, which is an increase of approximately 700 hryvnias during the year.
The highest pensions are awarded to judges, the average amount of which is almost 100,000 hryvnias per month. For the period from January 2023 to January 2024, judges' pensions increased from UAH 96,296.85 to UAH 99,837.30. At the same time, the average pension in Ukraine is 5,385.25 hryvnias, compared to 4,622.59 hryvnias a year earlier. Only 1.1 million pensioners receive a pension of over 10,000 hryvnias.
Currently, approximately 2.7 million Ukrainian pensioners continue to work , receiving an official pension of 5.6 thousand hryvnias on average. The majority of pensioners (3 million people) receive a pension of less than 3 thousand hryvnias, and another 2.2 million people receive between 3 and 4 thousand hryvnias. In total, 10.5 million people receive pensions in Ukraine, while during the year the number of pensioners decreased by 171 thousand people.
Indexation of pensions is planned in March 2024, and according to calculations, an increase of approximately 13% should be expected. This indexation is designed to take into account inflation for 2023 and average salary growth. At the same time, it is expected that approximately 1 thousand hryvnias will be received by those who receive a "clean" pension in the amount of 7,692 hryvnias. Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovich confirms the plans for indexation in March 2024, emphasizing the importance of meeting the planned standards this year, regardless of possible extraordinary circumstances, in particular, a military conflict.
In general, the issue of pensions and their indexation remains an urgent Ukrainian social issue, requiring the attention and actions of the authorities to ensure decent living conditions for pensioners.
