For almost two years now, the Ukrainian army has been protecting itself from the pressure of Russian troops. Approximately half a percent of the occupied territory of Ukraine was liberated, but significant military and strategic achievements were achieved mainly in 2022. The much-anticipated counteroffensive ended with minimal territorial gains in the east and south of the country. Currently, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are moving from the elimination of exclusively military targets in the occupied territories to the destruction of Russian infrastructure that serves both the civilian population and the military-industrial complex.
The new strategic targets include facilities that play a key role in supplying and supporting Russian military forces. The destruction of such facilities is intended to put pressure on the enemy and change the course of hostilities in favor of Ukraine.
In recent months, the Ukrainian military has successfully adapted foreign artillery shells for use in kamikaze drones. This innovative tactic is aimed at increasing the effectiveness of military operations of the Armed Forces.
In Kyiv, they found a temporary alternative to the liberation of the occupied territories - partisan attacks by the Ukrainian special forces. These measures are designed to destabilize Russian military operations and create additional difficulties for the enemy.
Since October of last year, the Russian military resumed the offensive, capturing Maryinka in Donetsk region. Despite significant losses, estimated at 3,000 to 5,000 people per month, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue active offensive operations. Thus, the Armed Forces are moving from purely military goals to the destruction of Russian infrastructure, which serves both the civilian population and the military-industrial complex.
