Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, together with the people of Ukraine, has been nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination was made for his contribution to countering Russian aggression, defending the state, and upholding democratic values.
The initiative was initiated by a professor at the University of Oslo, who exercised his right to nominate candidates in accordance with the Nobel Committee's procedures. Every year, hundreds of candidates submit nominations for the prize, including politicians, public organizations, and even entire nations.
The presentation emphasizes that the struggle of Ukrainian society is of global importance. It is not only about protecting its own territory, but also about maintaining international law and order and security in Europe. The role of Volodymyr Zelensky as a leader who became a symbol of resistance and united Ukrainians during a full-scale war is especially noted.
This is not the first attempt at nomination. Zelenskyy was previously nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022, 2023, and 2024, but did not win. At the same time, the international community's attention to Ukraine's role in ensuring stability and security continues to grow.
The final decision on the laureates is traditionally made by the Norwegian Nobel Committee after analyzing all submitted nominations. The names of the winners are usually announced in the fall.
The new nomination emphasizes the importance of the Ukrainian resistance not only for the future of the country, but also for the entire European community.
