Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed his firm position against negotiations with Russia to resolve the conflict in Ukraine at a meeting of the UN Security Council. He noted that dialogues with Moscow, as a rule, do not lead to constructive results and can only prolong the war.
"This war cannot simply 'slow down'. That is why this war cannot be calmed down with talks. Actions are needed... Russia can only be forced to make peace. And that is exactly what is needed - to force Russia to make peace," the Ukrainian president said.
Zelensky's main idea was that the war could only end on the basis of the "peace formula" he proposed.
"There is only one path to a just peace - clear steps that everyone understands, and this is reflected in the 'peace formula'," he said.
"We know that some in the world want to talk to Putin. We know that. To meet, to talk, to talk. But what can they hear from him? How upset he is that we are exercising our right to protect our people? Or that he wants to continue the war and terror so that no one thinks he was wrong?" the president said.
As a reminder, Zelensky's "peace formula" provides for the withdrawal of all Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine and the payment of reparations by Russia to Ukraine. Moscow does not accept this "peace formula" and refuses to discuss it.
