President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his willingness to leave his position if it helps to reach peace for Ukraine. During a press conference, answering journalists' questions, Zelensky stated that, if necessary, he was ready to give up his position, if it became a condition for the termination of the war.
"If peace is for Ukraine, and if you really need it to leave my post, I am ready," he said. However, the President said that such conditions should include Ukraine's accession to NATO, which is an important part of the state's security for him. According to him, NATO is the "cheapest option" to ensure the security of Ukraine. He also stressed that NATO issues will necessarily be discussed during international negotiations, although its end result is currently unknown.
Zelensky noted that he is focused on peace in the near future, not 20 years later. He does not intend to remain in office, and its main purpose is to ensure the security of Ukraine today.
The President also commented on negotiations on the end of the war, noting that Ukraine initiated these negotiations, as the war is taking place in its territory. "This is our table, and we invite European leaders," he said, clarifying that Ukraine should have a major role in resolving the conflict, since it is on its land that hostilities are ongoing.
In connection with these statements, US President Donald Trump also expressed his opinion on the war in Ukraine. He, in particular, stated that Putin wanted peace, but he, he said, would be able to capture all of Ukraine unless hostilities are stopped. Trump has also repeatedly criticized Zelensky, calling him a "dictator without elections" and blaming the Ukrainian leadership in the absence of efforts to complete the war.
