The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in an interview with the Indian mass media, expressed the opinion that India's reduction in imports of Russian oil could significantly affect Russia's economy and complicate the financing of its military aggression against Ukraine. The Ukrainian leader emphasized that India, as one of the world's largest economies, plays a significant role in supporting the Russian economy through oil imports, especially in conditions where many export opportunities are closed for Moscow.
Zelensky noted that the money that Russia earns thanks to agreements with India is used to finance the war. "I think the Indian government understands that. We will be happy to work on alternative ways. You are a big country, here the question is not about millions, but about billions that go back to Putin, to Russia, and then he uses them, because officially now he has a war economy," he explained.
The President of Ukraine emphasized that the cessation of financial flows to Russia due to a reduction in oil imports could significantly weaken the aggressor's ability to continue military operations. According to Zelensky, this could be an important step in ending the war, as Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian society must feel the consequences of their actions.
"We understand how much money Russia earns from this agreement with India. We understand it perfectly, in detail. And that's why we want to try to do everything we can to stop it. But, of course, we cannot pressure you. You are an independent country, this is your government... That is why I asked you to think if you accept the idea that we will do everything possible, but somehow we need to stop the flow of money so as not to strengthen the Russian armed forces," he concluded.
