The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, expressed his intention to prepare a plan for holding the second international summit on Ukraine, scheduled for autumn. He emphasized the importance of the participation of the Russian side in this event, reports Reuters.
Last month, the first international summit on Ukraine was held in Switzerland, where Kyiv hosted delegations from 92 countries. The main purpose of this event was to promote the peace plan proposed by Ukraine. However, Russia did not receive an invitation to this summit and immediately recognized it as doomed to failure.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi said at the press conference: "I set a goal that we have a fully ready plan in November." He also added: "I think that there should be representatives of Russia at the second summit." This statement shows the desire of the Ukrainian leader to find a common language with Moscow in order to achieve peace.
Russia is skeptical about the idea of a new summit. Earlier, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia said that the representatives of the country are not going to participate in the next summit. At the same time, the Kremlin expressed itself less categorically, noting that the idea of the second summit "does not have a clear meaning," Reuters reports.
Zelenskyi's rhetoric is gradually changing in the direction of peace negotiations. This may be related to the awareness that the Western partners can reduce their support for Ukraine at any moment, which will affect its political influence both in the international arena and within the country.
