The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, signed a law prohibiting the activities of religious organizations connected to Russia. This law will enter into force in 30 days, and religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UPC MP) will have nine months to sever ties with the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).
"24.08.2024 - returned with the signature of the President of Ukraine," reads the notification about the status of the document.
Earlier it was reported that the law will enter into force in 30 days, but the UOC-MP communities will have 9 months to sever ties with the Russian Orthodox Church.
People's deputies by 265 votes finally adopted draft law No. 8371, which provides for a ban on the activity of religious organizations associated with the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine.
The draft law was developed to implement the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine from December 1, 2022. It makes changes to a number of laws and makes it impossible to operate in Ukraine religious organizations, the management center of which is located in the Russian Federation.
