Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a new interview with Corriere della Sera , said he opposes any exchange of territories with Russia . According to him, the issue of territorial control has become one of the most difficult in the current discussions on possible peace initiatives.
The President stressed that the proposals for the exchange of territories do not meet Ukraine's interests. He emphasized that some of the discussions involve options that are beneficial to only one side, while the Ukrainian position is to preserve sovereignty and internationally recognized borders.
Zelensky also said that ideas for creating demilitarized and economic zones on both sides of the front line were discussed. According to him, Ukraine agrees to equal conditions for both sides, but does not support approaches that provide for restrictions only for Ukrainian territory.
Separately, the president drew attention to the possible consequences of the aggravation of the situation in the Middle East. In his opinion, the escalation between Iran and Israel could affect global arms supplies and create a risk of a shortage of air defense missiles for Ukraine. He noted that, if necessary, the United States and its allies could redirect some of the resources to their own defense needs.
In this context, Zelensky mentioned the program of purchasing American weapons with European funds, which is used to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities. At the same time, he expressed concern that delays in deliveries have occurred before during other international crises.
The president also commented on the issue of elections. He stated that they can only be held after the end of the war, and not during a temporary truce. According to him, holding elections in wartime is difficult from a legal and security point of view. He added that he is currently not sure about his possible candidacy and plans to focus on the position of citizens.
Some statements by the head of state were made against the backdrop of publications in the media, in particular on the Strana.ua , which previously reported on possible scenarios for international negotiations and political decisions.
Thus, Zelensky outlined several key topics at once: the unacceptability of territorial concessions, the need for equal conditions in any agreements, risks to defense supplies, and the position on elections after the end of the war.
