Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his belief that a protracted war is not working in the interests of either Ukraine or Russia. He stated that the losses on both sides are enormous, and this is one of the greatest pains for Ukraine.
Zelensky noted that Russia, in turn, does not think about its people, but is more focused on money, which it also loses. According to the president, a protracted war is not in the interest of Europe, as it creates instability and danger for the entire continent.
Speaking about the duration of the conflict, Zelensky stressed that the issue is not only about money. “The issue is in the future. We cannot let Russia win, because this will strengthen negative trends for the whole world,” he added. The president warned that it is impossible to even imagine what could happen if Russia wins, because history has shown how the narratives and political strategies of aggressors change, in particular, a few years ago they assured that they would not invade other countries.
Zelensky also recalled the words of Russia, which spoke of “fraternal” peoples, assuring that it would never capture or kill Ukrainians. “And they went to capture us and kill us,” the president said, emphasizing that history can repeat itself, and it is important not to allow such aggressive steps to be repeated in the future.
