Ukraine is not ready to defend against another major Russian offensive, expected in late May or June, Zelensky said in an interview with CBS News.
He says that now the Armed Forces of Ukraine have managed to contain Russia's offensive during the worst winter months and "stabilize the situation.".
But he says that it is difficult for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to fight the Russian Federation because its artillery has a longer range, and Ukraine has a huge shortage of both artillery and shells for it.
“We didn’t have ammunition, artillery shells, a lot of different things,” he said, stressing that while his troops had managed to hold off the Russians so far, they were not prepared to defend against another major Russian offensive expected in the coming months,” CBS News writes.
Zelensky met with journalists in the Sumy region, where shelling has intensified, and said that the entire area is under martial law due to a significant increase in the number of Russian troops on the other side of the border and attacks on nearby villages.
“Usually, when they attack with artillery and destroy villages, after that they always try to occupy them. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow. So we have to prepare,” Zelensky said.
The president “agreed” that it would be “very difficult” to win the war while Putin remained in power. And he declared that if Ukraine did not stand up, Kazakhstan would be next, then the Baltic states, then Poland, then Germany – “at least half of Germany.”.
He also once again criticized the US for not providing aid and noted that almost 80% of the money from this aid remains in the States.
Vladimir Putin does not plan to freeze the war in Ukraine and wants to completely occupy it.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this in an interview with CBS.
“This person does not want to end the war. He is selling his national idea – the return of the Soviet Union, even more than the Soviet Union – the Russian Empire. He is selling this idea to his society. It is not in his interest to end this war until he occupies us,” the Ukrainian president said.
