A woman faces 10 years behind bars for setting fire to the apartment in which she lived

An extraordinary event took place in Khadzhibey district of Odessa: a 36-year-old woman deliberately set fire to an apartment she had previously sold. As a result of the fire, the property was destroyed and the supporting structures of the house were damaged. For this crime, the suspect faces up to 10 years in prison.

According to the investigation, in the summer of this year, a 34-year-old man bought an apartment from the suspect for 1.5 million hryvnias. However, for unknown reasons, the new owner allowed the woman to temporarily stay in the apartment free of charge until the new residents moved in.

When it was time to leave the house, it caused a wave of indignation in the former owner. After the eviction, she returned to the apartment in the evening, holding a hammer. After breaking the window, the woman entered the room and set the mattress on fire. After the crime, she ran away, leaving the fire to destroy the property.

As it turned out, this is not the first time when a woman breaks the law. She already had a criminal record in her past: she was prosecuted for illegal possession of drugs. Then she was fined 17,000 hryvnias.

This time the situation for the suspect is much more serious. According to the legislation, the arson of an apartment, which caused significant damage, is punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment.

The fire caused significant damage to the apartment, destroying furniture, personal belongings and damaging the structure of the building. It is not yet known what the final amount of damages will be, but the owner has already filed a police report.
