An employee of the State Tax Service was detained in Kyiv, who demanded a bribe from a business for conducting "positive" inspections. The chief state inspector of the Central Interregional Department of the DPS was detained while receiving part of a bribe in the amount of $20,000.
As reported in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the official demanded money from the director of a private construction company from Chernihiv for the "cancellation" of commercial tax obligations. In case of receipt of $20,000, the tax official promised the businessman help in avoiding tax fines.
The criminal scheme was exposed during the receipt of one of the tranches of $13,000. With the assistance of DPS head Ruslan Kravchenko, law enforcement officers eliminated this corrupt group.
The arrested taxman was informed of the suspicion under part. 3 Art. 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He can be punished in the form of 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing.
